Like the US State Department, the press were being fed by Labor power brokers.

Something unusual is happening. Labor is not getting the boost that usually comes to parties after being endorsed in an election.

The press are hardly blameless, but is the standard of reporting really deteriorating faster than the politics it’s covering?

The East Timor political class may have its problems, but compared to ours they are now looking cool enough to leave it swinging in the breeze.

The media are uncomfortable with the vacuum at the centre of Australian politics.

In reality, Abbott’s ‘challenge’ to Rudd has always been as much a media construct as is Gillard’s current ‘challenge’ to Rudd or was Costello’s ‘challenge’ to Howard.

The media are caught up in it, so it is no surprise they see a sunrise where there is a sunset.
